Horseshoes...for a bit.

Date night part two!  After finishing up at the Aviary, Arie walked us back to the car to retrieve a mystery item or two from the trunk for the next chapter of the evening.  There they were, the four horseshoes we found in our shed upon moving into our home (years ago).  We've said it over and over again, every time we walked past the horseshoe area at the park, "We need to play horseshoes!"  Well, apparently it was finally time.

Horseshoes are a blast! But also completely difficult. We were laughing and attempting our best representation of professional horseshoers.  But, well, let's just say not a single ringer occurred.  Everything was peachy until I got a little overzealous with a toss.  It went over the backboard and, well...

Broken horseshoe.  Luckily we'd already had quite a while with the game and were ready to wind down a bit.  We went through a few more rounds then made our way over to the nearby koi pond to hang out for a while.  I'll say it again, it's crazy how having a different intention for such a regularly visited location can change up the experience.  We felt like we were visiting a brand new place.

After a while enjoying the park it was off to The Sun and Moon Cafe. I have to say, Husband did a great job planning an evening for the two of us to enjoy.

Thanks Love!

Tracy Aviary

Remember how a while back I planned a night out on the town for Hubby and myself to enjoy?  Well, I'm happy to report the favor has been graciously returned.  Arie planned a super cute surprise evening for us the other night, and part one took place at Tracy Aviary.  We are beyond lucky to have the only free standing aviary west of the Mississippi within walking distance from our home (one of two in the nation).  We both took trips there in our youth, but neither of us could remember the last time we had visited.  Now we already want to go back.  It was the perfect Fall evening to enjoy the aviary.

My favorite bird of the evening was the Saffron Finch (seen sitting inside the square window).  Neither of us could believe how peaceful and removed we felt considering we were inside an aviary which is inside a park which is very close to traffic filled roads.  We had walked Pup in that very park the night before, but the memory seemed far removed from where we were at the moment.

Stay tuned for part two!

P.S.  There were many spooky guests in attendance that evening.  Another reason why I love Fall.

Leonardoing

Arie and I have a pretty good routine for spending time together.  Weeknights are spent helping each other make dinner and decompressing from the work day.  On the weekends we generally head out for a bite to eat and then head home to watch a movie or spend time outside with the pup.  Budget and relationship friendly!  But for the past long while I've been thinking it would be fun for each of us to plan some date nights as surprises for each other.  With that said, I've made a date night envelope in which a little cash is put aside so I can be prepared for when it's my turn to treat.  I've been having a good time putting some intention into our dating life.  Back when the snow was still falling (gasp! guess it's time to plan another one!) I took husband out on a Groupon date.  For a few months prior I kept an eye out for some good deals that could be traded in for a surprise evening out on the town.  Anyhoo, after enjoying some amazing bbq at Pat's, we headed over to The Leonardo.  The Leonardo is "a contemporary museum that explores the unexpected ways that science, technology, art, and creativity connect."  We had a great time and especially enjoyed the hands on and interactive elements available for exploration.

Got any great date night ideas?  I'm all ears!
